Wendy Williams Gets Raw In New Biopic On Lifetime

Wendy Williams, the self-anointed “Queen of all Media,” sheds her private persona in her new biopic, Wendy Williams: The Movie, premiering 8 p.m. EST, January 30, on Lifetime.

Executive produced by Williams, the authorized biopic gives fans a raw glimpse into her life, revealing the highs and lows she has experienced. Williams has made herself the go-to source for celebrity gossip on her hit daytime talk show, The Wendy Williams Show, but recently the spotlight has turned toward her. The movie takes viewers on her real-life journey from a complicated child with big dreams, to becoming a successful radio and TV host, along with other challenges she has faced. Williams is portrayed by actress Ciera Payton, who previously appeared in Tyler Perry’s, The Oval, while Morocco Omari stars as Williams’ ex-husband, Kevin Hunter. 

The authorized project provides a revealing look at the talk show host’s journey. Wendy Williams: The Movie is produced by Front Street for Lifetime and executive produced by Wendy Williams, Will Packer, and Sheila Ducksworth. Following the release of Wendy Williams: The Movie, Lifetime will also air a new original documentary, Wendy Williams: What a Mess! on January 30 at 10 p.m. ET.

In this feature length documentary, Williams, speaks directly to the camera, discussing every inch of joy and humiliation she has experienced since childhood. From her apartment in Manhattan, we’re with Wendy during the course of her divorce, as she deals with being a “Hot Topic and finds a way to right her ship. It’s a candid look ripe with revelations about the talk show queen’s notorious feuds with celebrities, her shocking divorce, her childhood, and the private darkness she has endured.

The documentary is produced by eOne and Creature Films for Lifetime. Executive producers include Williams, Tara Long, Mark Ford, Kevin Lopez, Sarah Girgis, and Joie Jacoby. Brie Miranda Bryant and Gena McCarthy serve as executive producers for Lifetime.
